SPARKILL, N.Y. / ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's tennis team split a pair of matches this weekend on the road. The Redhawks fell to East Coast Conference opponent St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday, 7-0 but came back to defeat Dominican on Saturday, 4-3.
On Friday, STAC gave the Redhawks all they could handle winning each of the singles and doubles matches. The closest game of the day came at No. 1 doubles where
Salome Darsalia and
Bijisha Shrestha lost 6-3.
On Saturday, Roberts got back in the win column by defeating Domincan, 4-3. After dropping the doubles point the Redhawks faced an uphill battle in singles competition.
Laura Freeman picked up a win at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-3. But it was
Charity Hinman would eventually clinched the match for Roberts with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kendra Saintel at No. 6 singles.
Salome Darsalia's lengthy match at the No. 3 spot was crucial in the Redhawks victory. Darsalia won 6-1, 1-6, 7-5.
Carolyn Graham was the other singles winner for Roberts at the fourth spot.
Roberts Wesleyan (3-3) will head to the St. Bonaventure Tournament on October 4th-6th for their next action.
