ERIE, Pa. – The Roberts Wesleyan women's bowling team were runners-up and the Grapevine Classic hosted by Penn State Behrend over the weekend, going 5-3 overall with a total pinfall of 8,637 (172.7 average) for the second place finish.
On the opening day of the tournament, the bowlers competed in five traditional matches. The first match was dropped to Walsh with a score of 782-831, but they bounced back with their high series of the day to defeat La Roche 906-655. The Redhawks remained steady throughout the day with totals of 868, 860, and 896 and finished with a 1-3 record for day one of competition.
Sophomore
Mykenzie Burnett led the Redhawks in the traditional matches portion of the tournament with a 914 series (182.80 average) placing fifth overall and claiming a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Freshman
Luz Torres finished seventh overall for the tournament with a 903 series (180.60 average).
On the second day of the tournament, Roberts competed in five baker total-pinfall matches, where they were undefeated for the day, taking home four consecutive wins before ending the day with a huge victory over tournament champion Mercyhurst 863-816.
Senior
Sarah Gerken led the way for the Redhawks averaging 210.2 in the baker matches portion of the event, with solid performances added in by
Luz Torres and
Mykenzie Burnett.
Roberts (7-4) will be back in action again on October 17 at ABC Gates Bowl for a 1:30 p.m. dual match against Penn State Behrend.
