ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's and women's swimming teams had its home opening meet on Saturday hosting both Cazenovia and Medaille. The Redhawks had a successful day with both teams winning while also setting six new program records.
The women's team defeated Cazenovia, 147-37 and Medaille, 148-32. The men outscored Caz, 162-0 and Medaille 157-39.
Freshman
Mya June has had a fast start to her college swimming career breaking two records. The Schenectady, N.Y. native set new records in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard backstroke. June posted a time of 1:02.14 in the fly, finishing 25 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. In the 200, back the freshman finished first with a time of 2:23.94. Both records set were school records as well as pool records.
Joining June in the women's team highlights was
Katelyn Rakiey in the 100-yard backstroke. The sophomore placed first with a time of 1:04.79 to set a new program and pool record.
In men's swimming action,
Gabe Rivers added to his already successful Roberts career with a new program record in the 200-yard backstroke. The junior swam to a first place finish in 2:11.35.
Freshman
Caleb Larchar broke two Roberts records in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.93) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.67). Larcher took first place in both events to help pace the Redhawks.
The oldest record broken on Saturday was in the men's 400-yard freestyle relay which was set back in 2017 during the swimming team's inaugural season. The team of

Gavin Hand posted a time of 4:03.41.
Roberts will look to continue its strong performance on Saturday, Oct. 30 in Geneva, N.Y. when the teams take on Hobart and William Smith and Utica College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
