Women's Bowling Places 5th at Ebonite Mercyhurst Invite

ERIE, Pa. - The Roberts Wesleyan women's bowling team finished 5th overall in the 2021 Ebonite Mercyhurst Invitational over the weekend.
 
On the first day of competition, the Redhawks competed in five traditional team matches. The ladies won their opening match against D'Youville College (902-761), but fell short in the next three matches, losing to Daemen College (821-914), Medaille College (704-820), and Wilmington University (835-975). In the final match of the day, the Redhawks had their second best performance and were able to take down Penn State Behrend by a score of 850-756, finishing the traditional portion with a record of 2-3.
 
Freshman Luz Torres led the team on day one with an overall pinfall of 862 (172.4 average), finishing 14th overall for the tournament. 
 
On day two of competition, the Redhawks competed in five total pinfall baker matches. They opened the day with two consecutive losses against a solid Duquesne University squad (885-1,193) and a tough performance by Mercyhurst University (907-847). The ladies then bounced back in match three to defeat Medaille with their best showing of the weekend (1081-879), which featured baker games of 192-266-200-213 and 210 by the Redhawks.
 
In the fourth match, the ladies began Round 1 of match play, where they were seated 6th against D'Youville College. Winning narrowly by four pins (929-925), the Redhawks advanced to the winners circle of their bracket, defeating Penn State-Behrend (953-911) to secure a 5th-place overall finish for the tournament and a record of 3-2 for the day.
 
Senior Sarah Gerken led the team on day two, averaging 205.8 for the entire day. Freshman Jaden Warner averaged 189.0 for the Redhawks, while sophomore Paige Barkley chipped in with a 185.9 average for the day.
 
The Redhawks are back in action on November 6-7 for the Medaille Invitational in Buffalo, N.Y.
