STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's and women's swimming programs took on The College of Staten Island and Queens College for the first ever tri-meet with East Coast Conference teams.
The men's team fell to CSI, 132-96 but saw four records broken throughout the day. Queens does not have a men's swim team. The women's team was the overall winner defeating CSI, 146-75 and Queens, 135-57.
Freshman
Caleb Larchar had a record-breaking afternoon in the pool setting a new Roberts program record in each of his events. The Sherburne, N.Y. native set records in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, and was a part of the recording-breaking 200-yard medley relay team, and 400-yard freestyle relay team.
Larchar was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.93) and second in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.76).
The relay teams consisting of Larchar,
Casey Webb,
Collin Webb and
Gabe Rivers found success in both the 200 medley and 400 free relays. The team was second in the 200 (1:43.79) and first in the 400 (3:21.11) setting Roberts records in both.
On the women's side, Roberts dominated the meet. Sophomore
Katelyn Rakiey set programs records in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke, which also included a new CSI pool record.
Rakiey was first in the 100 back (1:04.22) and first in the 200 back (2:16.81).
The women's team combined for 11 total first place finishes in the meet. Leading the way was
Rennee Rozler with three individual wins.
Other highlights included:
- Gabe Rivers won the 200 free (1:53.62) and 200 IM (2:08.32).
- Collin Webb won the 100 back (58.38) and 100 free (48.33)
- Casey Webb won the 50 free (23.07)
- Paige Siebold won the 1,000 free (12:17.49)
- Mya June won the 200 free (2:07.77) and 100 fly (1:04.41)
- Rennee Rozler won the 100 breast (1:14.27); 100 free (57.95); and 200 IM (2:25.09)
- Taylor Hurd won the 200 breast (2:47.45)
- Brett VanBoden won the 500 free (6:20.46)
- Roberts women won the 400 free relay (3:58.20)
Roberts will be back in the pool again on Jan. 15 at Jamestown Community College.
