Redhawks Women's Basketball Week in Review: March 8-14

Women's Basketball Takes Down American International, 3/12

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Redhawks traveled to Buffalo this past week to compete in the NCAA Tournament East Region bracket being held at Daemen College. Coming in as the fifth seed in the region, Roberts faced NE-10 team American International for the first round of the playoffs. Solid second half play took the Redhawks from a 1-point lead at halftime to a dominant 75-61 victory to move onto the East Region semifinal game.

The first three quarters of the game were a back-and-forth match with five ties and six lead changes, but the last 3 minutes of the third quarter turned the game around. Starting with a 3-pointer by Taryn Wilson, the Redhawks went on a 10-0 run for the remainder of the quarter. In the fourth, the Redhawks did not allow the Yellow Jackets to come back and held on for a victory over the four-seed.

Four Redhawks locked in double-digit scoring, led by Junior Dimitra Gkizani. The Athens, Greece native finished the game with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block. Senior Paige McCormick recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists. Junior Taryn Wilson had another all-around solid game with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Freshman Danielle DiCintio finished with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal.
