MINEOLA, N.Y. – An eventful weekend for the Roberts Wesleyan women's bowling team left the Redhawks on the brink of winning an East Coast Conference title.
Roberts got off to a slow start at the conference tournament in qualifying play against Daemen. The Redhawks fell 811-762 to the Wildcats. But the team quickly responded with a win over Molloy (897-847), a tie against Mercyhurst (855-855) and then a win over St. Thomas Aquinas (883-660). The 2-1-1 record gave the Redhawks the No.4 seed heading into the second day of competition.
Roberts first matchup came against No. 1 Chestnut Hill. The Redhawks won the first round 875-812 but lost the second round 1026-843. In the third round of traditional match play Roberts grabbed the 3-1 win to cement its place in the finals against No. 2 Daemen.
Unfortunately, the championship match was unable to take place at the site of the tournament, but the finals will be rescheduled between Daemen and Roberts at a new site near both institutions in Western, N.Y. The date and place are to be determined.
This trip to the ECC finals is the first in program history.
