ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan men's soccer team hosted East Coast Conference rival Daemen College on Saturday and coming away with a 4-2 victory.
In a game that saw much of the play in the midfield spaces, the Roberts defense played with control and grit allowing Daemen College only three attempts with zero shots on goal in the first half.
The Redhawks pressure broke through the Daemen defense and opened the scoring in the 35th minute as junior defender
Alex Perez Vega launched a driven ball into the top left corner of the Daemen goal. Perez Vega was assisted by senior midfielder
Johanz Tusiime.
The Redhawks struck again two minutes later at the 37th minute mark when junior midfielder
Ethan Leonard sent a driven ball, left to right, finding junior forward,
Dylan Ruiz alone at the back post. With a well struck header, Ruiz drove the ball into the side netting to finish the play and raise the Redhawks to a 2-0 lead.
The Redhawks kept the 2-0 lead for the remainder of the first half and into the second half. At the 69th minute mark, Redhawks junior forward
Ryan Curtis drove the left flank to the goal and neatly finished with a shot to the near post, beating the Daemen keeper. Roberts would add to the total again at the 73rd minute when
Dylan Ruiz was taken down inside the penalty area. Taking the penalty kick, Ruiz calmly tucked the ball away, increasing the Redhawks lead to 4-0. Daemen would respond with goals at the 75th and 81st minute marks.

Jared Gibbons finished with five saves on the day. Other leaders for Roberts included
Justin Robertson, Mark Anthony Blackburn and Leonard with one shot, Curtis and
Jordan Sullivan with two shots, and Ruiz with three shots.
The Redhawks are on the road Tuesday March 30th when they take on ECC Conference opponent D'Youville College at 5:00 pm.
