DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan University men's soccer team is headed to the ECC Tournament.
Junior Justin Robertson's goal 80 seconds into the match gave the Redhawks the early lead and Roberts battled to a 1-1 tie with No. 14 Mercy in its regular-season finale. The result earned Roberts the No. 4 seed in the upcoming ECC Tournament.
"There are good ties and there are bad ties and today was definitely a good tie for us," Roberts coach Scott Reber said.
Robertson scored in the second minute of action off a cross from Alex Perez Vega. It was Robertson's sixth goal of the season and Vega's second assist of the season. The Redhawks held onto the one goal lead for another 38 minutes until Daniel Rodriguez scored the equalizer for Mercy.Senior goalkeeper Jared Gibbons came up with eight saves on the day, including a couple of incredible close-range saves to keep the score knotted.Â
"Mercy is a good team and for us to go toe-to-toe with them at their place on Senior Day says a lot about our effort," Reber said. "I am really proud of the guys." Roberts (7-4-5, 3-1-4 ECC)  will travel to No. 1 Molloy on Thursday for a 7 p.m. kickoff in the ECC Tournament. Â
The Redhawks will host an ID Camp from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
