ROCHESTER, N.Y. – When junior guard Danielle DiCintio sank her fourth three-pointer of the game to bring the Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team within four points of Felician University with 12 seconds remaining in the third quarter on Friday night, it felt like the Redhawks might stage an opening-night comeback.
The Falcons had other ideas.
Felician outscored Roberts 24-9 in the fourth quarter to secure an 80-61 win in the first game of the Redhawks Classic at the Voller Athletic Center.
"They are a good team and they had a good game plan," Roberts coach Kevin Clifford said. "I am proud of our team. We made a couple of runs, but we were never able to take the lead."
DiCintio connected on five of her eight three-point attempts to lead Roberts with 17 points.
Freshman forward Grace Galgano scored 11 points in her Redhawk debut. Junior Emily Palmer added a career-high eight points and junior Georgia Haverlock and freshman Paris Anthony each contributed seven
Haverlock and Galgano each pulled down five rebounds for Roberts.
The Redhawks return to action at noon on Saturday against Pace University.
"We just need to learn from this," Clifford said. "We will watch some film and I think the quick turnaround will be good for us to prepare us for later in the season."
