BUFFALO, N.Y. – The No. 17 Roberts Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team scored four goals in the first five minutes of the first quarter and improved to a perfect 4-0 in East Coast Conference play with an 18-9 win over D'Youville College on Saturday.
Roberts (8-4, 4-0 ECC) led 8-2 after the first quarter and 12-3 at the half.
Senior Madison Bell, who entered the game leading NCAA Division II in points per game at 6.91, started the scoring with an unassisted tally 19 seconds into the game and registered six goals and three assists on the afternoon. Bell also tied for the team lead with six draw controls.
Senior Alexis Grant scored four goals for Roberts while freshman Emma Blumenstock and sophomore Sophia Podszebka each added three. Podszebka added six draw controls and an assist and Blumenstock added two assists and two ground balls.
Senior Lindsey Brinkel, who leads the ECC in assists, added six helpers for the Redhawks. Senior Ellen O'Neil added two goals for Roberts.
Senior Natalie Arieno made eight saves in 45:16 of action while Shawna Lesmerises made three in 14:44. Junior Caitlin Tucker led Roberts with four ground balls.
The Redhawks wrap up the regular season with two home games, starting with ECC rival and No. 13 Mercy College at 2 p.m. on April 23.
