ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior
Ryan Karker won two individual events to lead the Roberts Wesleyan College men's track and field team to a second place finish in the East Cost Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday.
Karker captured the 400- and 800-meter runs, taking the 400 in 49.42 seconds and the 800 in 1:56.57.
Lee Sortore (3,000 steeplechase, 10:05.07),
James Betts (1,500, 4:01.8),
Blake Kasper (5,000, 15:25.21) and
Collin Webb (javelin, 47.60 meters) also won individual events for the Redhawks. The 4-by-800 relay team of
Landon Schreib, Sortore,
Shane Pease and Betts won in 8:02.87.
Roberts finished with 186 points while Saint Thomas Aquinas College finished first with 228. Molloy College was third with 98.
"We were competitive," Roberts coach
Mark McCown said. "STAC didn't run away and hide on us."
Roberts was particularly strong in the 5,000 as Kasper cruised to victory, followed by sophomore
Owen White (16:12.28) and junior
Michael Sanders (16:13.65). Sanders set a personal record by 13 seconds. Senior
Joshua Johnson (16:24.95) and junior
Evan Rogotzke (16:26.37) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Webb won the javelin while competing in the event for the second time ever. Senior
Connor Avery also set a personal record while finishing fourth in the 400 hurdles (58.43).
Other highlights for the Redhawks:
