Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan College men's soccer program has announced the nine incoming student-athletes who will be joining the Redhawks varsity squad for the upcoming 2022 season.  

Joining the Redhawks this coming fall will be: Dylan Baker, Micah Cornfield, Luke Hanes, Josh Jones, Benja Lazcano, Dwayne Lewis, Luis Milan, Julian Silva, and Rodrigo Torrellio.

"We are really looking forward to the fall season," head coach Scott Reber said, "Our team has worked hard all year and we feel this incoming class will significantly add to our already solid core.  These young men are quality on and off the field and will certainly add to our team culture as we head into a highly competitive season.  It will be exciting to integrate these players into the team this August."

Below is a capsule look at the incoming athletes:

Dylan Baker

Parent's name: Sharmin Ali.
Hometown: London, England.
What do you plan to study: Pre-Physical Therapy.
Academic year: Freshman.
Height: 5-feet, 9-inches.
Weight: 165 pounds.
Preferred position: Central Midfielder.
Accolades: Team was runner up in the ESFA Men's U18 National Final … Two-time winner of the NFYL South Premier Division … Team placed third at the Burges Cup in Holland.
Why did you choose Roberts? "I see this opportunity as a way to contribute to an exciting upcoming project.  I believe I have the ability and mindset to help this team reach its full potential, there are a lot of quality players and I'm positive this upcoming season we are going to make our mark."
 

Micah Cornfield

Parents' names: Mark and Judith Cornfield.
Hometown: Corning, NY.
Studying:  Business.
Academic year: Freshman.
Height: 6-feet.
Weight: 150 pounds.
Preferred positions: Midfield /Forward. 
Accolades: Two-time STAC All-Star and two-time Section 4 champion. … Named fifth-team all-state and Elmira Star-Gazette Player of the Year …  Also competed in indoor track … Member of National Honor Society. 
Why did you choose Roberts? "Roberts has great programs, is in a great location for me, and I really love the family aspect of the soccer program."
 

Luke Hanes

Parents' names: Jennifer and Joseph Hanes.
Hometown:  Mesa, AZ.
Studying: Business Administration.
Academic year: Freshman.
Height: 5-10.
Weight: 167 pounds.
Preferred position: Winger/Outside Midfield.
Accolades: 6A All-conference team 2020-2021…6A Offensive Player of the Year 2020-2021…All-Region Team 2021-2022…Honor roll student.
Why did you choose Roberts? "To continue with my faith, and playing ball while I'm at it. A change of scenery is a plus, too."
 

Joshua Jones

Parents' names: David and Joanne Jones.
Hometown: West Midlands, England.
Studying: Sports Management.
Academic year: Junior.
Height: 6-feet.
Weight: 163 pounds.
Preferred position: Center Back.
Why did you choose Roberts? "I chose Roberts to further my education and finish my degree with the opportunity to continue my soccer career in the States."
 

Benja Lazcano

Parents' names: Luis Felipe Lazcano and Francisca Barros. 
Hometown: Concepcion, Chile.
Studying: Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management.
Academic year: Sophomore.

Preferred position: Right Back.
Accolades: Dean's List student.
Why did you choose Roberts? "I chose Roberts because from the very first moment I was very impressed with both the athletic academic programs and the opportunities they offer you. Also, after talking with the coach and a couple of teammates I could tell that they are more than just a team, they are like a family. Moreover, it is a very competitive team in which everyone has a winning mentality and an amazing quality. I'm confident that, plus the effort of each one of us, will lead us to great things."

 
Dwayne Lewis

Parents names: Tracy and Wayne Lewis.
Hometown:  Middle Island, NY.
Studying: Mechanical Engineering.
Academic year: Freshman.

Preferred position: Right Back.
Accolades: National Honor Society and Foreign Language Honor Society.
Why did you choose Roberts? "I choose Roberts because they had my major and the soccer team. The students and teachers of the school felt very welcoming and had a positive environment."
 

Luis Milan

Parent's names: Hamilton Aprecido Milan and Tania Regina Cataldi Milan.
Hometown:  Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Studying: Exercise Science.
Academic year: Junior.
Height: 5-7.
Weight: 152 pounds.
Preferred position: Central Attacking Midfielder or Right Wing.
Accolades: Missouri Valley College Fall 2019 Dean's List…Made President's Honor Roll three times at Garden City Community College.

Julian Silva

Parents' names: Carol Gillette and Bruno Silva.
Hometown: Greece, NY.
Studying: Undecided.
Academic year: Freshman.
Height: 5-10.
Weight: 145 pounds.
Preferred position: Left Wing or Central Attacking Midfielder.
Accolades:  Registered 6 goals and 4 assists during his senior season at Greece Arcadia High School…National Honor Society had 4.0 GPA in high school.
Why did you choose Roberts? "I chose Roberts because ever since the first day I went on a tour, I could really feel not only the care and compassion the coaches had for their athletes but also how much the staff and teachers also cared about their students. I love how Roberts strives for excellence in every aspect when it comes to academics, athletics, and striving to have their students improve their relationships with God. I feel that students that attend Roberts really want to make a world a better place and aren't just going through the motions, which I love."
 

Rodrigo Torrellio

Parents' names:  Sergio and Maria Torrellio.
Hometown: Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
Studying:  Sports Management.
