Track & Field Puts Together Strong Performance at Highlander Invite

Houghton, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan University Track and Field team returned from their Winter break and traveled to Houghton College to race in the Highlander Invitational.
 
Weight Throw:
Roberts had a strong performance in both men's and women's weight throw. On the men's side, Jordan Moran finished first overall, throwing for a new personal record (13.29m) and qualified for Christian Nationals. Moriah Mills threw for a personal record (12.64m) and qualified on the women's side for Christian Nationals, as she took home 1st overall at Houghton.
 
Shot Put:
Maya Pelayo set a personal record in the women's shot put with a distance of (10.98m), which qualified her for Christian Nationals.
 
Long Jump;
Roberts took home first in the long jump for both the men's and women's sides. Hailee Lowe, who previously qualified for Christian Nationals at the Houghton December Classic on December 2nd, won the women's long jump with a personal record of (5.17m) and Corden Zimmerman won the men's long jump with a personal record of (6.43m), which qualified him for Christian Nationals.
 
1600 Meter Run (Mile):
In his first race since the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in December, Ryan Karker blew away the competition in the men's mile with a time of (4:24:65), which qualified him for Christian Nationals.
 
High Jump:
Corden Zimmerman qualified for Christian Nationals with a personal record of (1.81m) in the men's high jump.
 
Personal Records (PRs):
The team had a total of 19 athletes setting new personal records, as the whole team showed up to support each other in their first meet back from Winter break.

When asked about tonight's meet, Coach Andrew Dorr said: "When we went our separate ways before Christmas, we emphasized the importance of putting in the work until we all come back. With some breakthroughs today, we know that we're in a great spot to start the season."
 
Next Meet:
Next week (1/26-1/27), the team travels to Youngstown State in Ohio for the YSU Mid-Major Invitational, where the whole team will look to compete for the first time this season. This is also the first big road trip of the season for the team, who will look to improve their times, heights, and distances.
