ERIE, Pa. - The Roberts Wesleyan women's bowling team opened their season at the 2023 Mercyhurst Tournament, hosted by Mercyhurst University on October 7-8. The two-day format consisted of five traditional team matches on day one; four baker total pinfall matches on day two and ended with a best 4-of-7 baker match-play round to determine final standings. The tournament was held on a 39-foot, 23.3mL sport oil pattern.
 
On Saturday, the ladies opened with wins against conference rival D'Youville (875-718) and Pitt-Bradford (823-802). The Redhawks then followed this up with a huge victory (904-888) over Niagara University, who is ranked 28^th in the nation. To end the day, Roberts suffered a hard loss against the nation's 16^th-ranked Mercyhurst by just one pin (813-814), as well as to a tough Wilmington team (891-974).
 
On Sunday, Roberts bounced back with a win over Mount Aloysius (631-916) before capturing their next biggest upset of the weekend, a huge victory over conference foe Daemen University (870-862) who is ranked 33^rd in the nation. The ladies continued their streak by defeating Penn State-Behrend (956-789) before heading into the final match of the day, where they succumbed to Mercyhurst in the best 4-of-7 baker match-play round by a score of 0-4.
 
Leading the way for the girls this weekend were senior Paige Barkley (Canandaigua, NY) with a 185.4 sport average and junior Luz Torres (Lakewood, NJ) with a 175.7 sport average.
 
The ladies now have an overall record of 6-3. They head back to Erie, PA, to compete in the Grapevine Classic, hosted by Penn State-Behrend on October 14-15, 2023.
