Women's Bowling Takes 3rd at Grapevine Classic

ERIE, Pa. - The women's bowling team competed in the 2023 Grapevine Classic, hosted by Penn State-Behrend University on October 14-15. The two-day format consisted of five traditional team matches on day one and four baker total pinfall matches on day two, with total pinfall determining the winner of the event. The tournament was held on a 40-foot, 22.2mL sport oil pattern on Saturday, and a 44-foot, 22.1mL sport oil pattern on Sunday.
 
On Saturday, the ladies opened with a loss against conference rival Daemen (839-963), but quickly turned things around with four straight wins against Penn State-Behrend (901-781), Hilbert (949-827), D'Youville (956-707), and Pittsburgh-Greensburg (859-780).
 
On Sunday, Roberts started the day against William Smith College, where they suffered their first loss in four matches (828-886). In match two, the ladies captured an easy win over La Roche (871-723) before falling to Saint Vincent College (840-938). The Redhawks ended the day on a positive note with a victory over Ursuline and their highest total of the day (933-620), which helped catapult them into a 3rd place tournament finish, behind Saint Vincent and William Smith, who finished first and second respectively.
 
Leading the way for the girls this weekend was senior Mykenzie Burnett (Shortsville, NY) with a 191.5 sport average for the weekend. Burnett averaged 198.8 in baker matches and 184.2 during the traditional matches.
 
Senior Paige Barkley claimed a spot on the All-Tournament Team, finishing 4th out of 66 bowlers during Saturday's traditional matches with a 187.0 average. Also seeing action and bowling well for the Redhawks were junior Angelica Polcini (192.1 average in baker) and Hayley Kephart (190.2 off the bench in traditional).
 
The ladies now have an overall record of 12-6. They head to Buffalo, NY, to compete in the Brunswick Fall Classic, hosted by Niagara University on November 4-5, 2023.
