CLARION, PA. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team used balanced scoring to overcome a 16-point first-quarter deficit to defeat host Clarion 93-86 in a non-conference game Wednesday night.
"I was really proud of the effort," Roberts coach
Kevin Clifford said. "It was definitely a back-and-forth game. They came out and shot the ball well, but we battled."
Senior guard
Danielle DiCintio made a career-high seven three-pointers and scored 23 points to lead five Redhawks (2-1) in double figures.
"When she gets going like that, it kind of opens up the court for everybody," Clifford said. "We just made some plays and did a good job sharing the ball (17 assists on 33 made field goals)."
Sophomore
Marianna Freeman scored 10 of her 16 points in the second quarter as Roberts turned a 30-17 deficit after the first quarter into a 51-45 halftime lead by outscoring Clarion 34-15.
Sophomore
Grace Galgano added a season-high 15 points and nine rebounds and graduate student
Georgia Haverlock played a solid all-around game with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Junior
Grace Dow and senior
Ashlynn McKnight contributed 10 and 9 points, respectively.
Roberts scored 22 points off of 18 Clarion turnovers. The game featured four ties and 11 lead changes.
"I don't think that we ever got rattled and we showed a lot of resilience and perseverance," Clifford said. "They are buying into the culture."
The Redhawks return home on Saturday to host Mercyhurst in a non-conference game at 2 p.m. at the Voller Athletic Center.
