Redhawks Upset No. 32 Saint Vincent; Finish 5th at Daemen Classic

LOCKPORT, N.Y. - The women's bowling team traveled to Lockport, NY, on November 11-12, 2023, to take part in the Daemen Fall Classic hosted by Daemen University. The format consisted of five traditional matches, followed by five total pinfall baker matches, with total pinfall determining the final standings. The tournament was held on a 40-foot, 30mL sport pattern. The field consisted of Ursuline College (D2), Mercyhurst University (D2), D'Youville University (D2), Daemen University (D2), Saint Vincent College (D3), Penn State Behrend University (D3), Baldwin Wallace University (D3), University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg (D3), University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (D3), Hilbert College (D3), and William Smith College (D3).


During the opening day of traditional team matches, the Redhawks were perfect, winning five straight matches and tallying a 5-0 record. The ladies defeated D'Youville (884-794), Baldwin Wallace (863-664), Ursuline (869-777), William Smith (875-843), and Hilbert (789-680).


On day two, the ladies opened their baker matches against Daemen and held the early lead, but a 133-182 in the final game cost them the win, and they recorded their first loss of the weekend (890-928). The ladies bounced back in the next match, winning against Penn State Behrend (851-820), before dropping the third match to #16 ranked Mercyhurst (776-948). In the fourth match, the Redhawks defeated #32 ranked Saint Vincent College (857-845) before securing their final win of the day against Pitt-Bradford (878-782).


Overall, the ladies , with Daemen and Mercyhurst claiming first and second place respectively.


Leading the ladies overall for the weekend was senior Mykenzie Burnett, averaging 182.1 and competing in 100% of the frames. Senior Hayley Kephart averaged 175.9 for the weekend, competing in 92% of the frames. Also chipping in were junior Luz Torres (181.7 average on Day 1), freshmen Rebecca Spry (180.4 average on Day 2), and junior Danielle Jaeger (179.6 average on Day 2).


The Redhawks overall record is now 24-13; they are back on the road this weekend, competing in the RIT Tiger Cup and Brick City Classic tournaments on November 18-19, 2023, in Webster, NY.
