Women's Bowling Takes 1st at RIT Tiger Cup & Brick City Classic

The women's bowling team traveled to Webster, NY, on November 18-19, 2023, to take part in the 2023 USBC RIT Tiger Cup and Brick City Classic events hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology. The RIT Tiger Cup consisted of six traditional team games, followed by five baker games on a 38-foot/28.3mL oil pattern; the Brick City Classic was comprised of four traditional team games, followed by 15 baker games on a 47-foot/26.15mL oil pattern.


During the first event, the varsity team was made up of Abigail Barnard, Angelica Polcini, Danielle Jaeger, Hailee Zalwsky, Kendall Keep, Madelynn Jones, and Paige Barkley. The ladies came out with the early lead and never looked back, capturing first place in the tournament over runner-up Erie Community College.


Leading the individual field was senior Mykenzie Burnett with a 187.0 average, who claimed the tournament MVP title. Also earning spots on the All-Tournament Team were freshman Hailee Zalwsky (2nd), junior Luz Torres (3rd), and senior Paige Barkley (4th).


During the second event, the varsity team featured Rebecca Spry, Luz Torres, Hayley Kephart, Ashley Roca, Amelia Ponto, and Abigail Barnard. Repeating what their teammates started the day prior, the ladies came out with the early lead in game one and continued their momentum throughout, taking the first place title over runner-up Erie Community College. 


Sophomore Amelia Ponto led the tournament with a 173.75 average, earning the title of tournament MVP. Rounding out the rest of the All-Tournament Team were four Redhawks: senior Hayley Kephart (2nd), junior Danielle Jaeger (3rd), junior Angelica Polcini (4th), and freshman Ashley Roca (5th).


The ladies now have two USBC titles for the season and their NCAA record still holds at 24-13. They are on the road again this weekend as they travel to Waterloo, NY, on December 2, 2023, to take on local opponent William Smith College (D3) before hosting conference rival Daemen University on December 3, 2023, in Rochester, NY.
