PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team finished first semester with a flourish.
The Redhawks made six three-pointers while building a 16-point lead at the end of the first quarter and defeated host Lake Erie College 78-62 in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.
Senior guard
Danielle DiCintio scored a season-high 26 points and dished out 10 assists to lead the Redhawks (4-6), who have won two straight games.
"Good teams win on the road and today we found a way to do that," Roberts coach
Kevin Clifford said. "I thought that we shared the ball well and getting off to a good start gave us a lot of confidence."
DiCintio made six three-pointers in the game and scored 12 points in the third quarter.
"I thought that she did a really good job of handling their pressure defense," Clifford said. "She also shot the ball really well and did a good job of finding her teammates."
Junior forward
Grace Dow added 18 points and eight rebounds while
Georgia Haverlock and
Grace Galgano both scored nine points for Roberts. Haverlock pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Dow is coming off a 19-point, 16-rebound effort against Mansfield on Wednesday night.
"She was decisive and she was aggressive," Clifford said. "It was nice to see her put together back-to-back good games."
Senior guard
Ashlynn McKnight drilled a three-pointer on Roberts' first possession and the Redhawks led the entire game. Galgano added two threes in the opening stanza while Haverlock, DiCintio and
Paris Anthony added one apiece.
"We got contributions from a lot of people and played well," Clifford said. "It was a good team win."
Roberts returns to action at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12 against ECC rival Mercy in the Voller Athletic Center.
