Redhawks Have Big Weekend at GVSU

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It was a big weekend for the members of the Roberts indoor track and field team at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Friday and Saturday.  
 
Two new school records and many new personal bests were set at the meet which featured over 100 teams from around the country.
 
Blake Kasper had one of the best racing weekends of his career breaking the program record in the 5,000m with a time of 14:53.85 and recording the fifth best time in the 3,000m (8:36.83).
 
Lee Sortore now holds the top spot in Roberts' history for the 3,000m, crossing the line in 8:25.06. Sortore also ran 4:15.83 in the mile to take sixth place and earn the No. 5 spot on the Redhawks all-time list.
 
Ryan Karker continues to solidify himself as one of the best mid-distance runners in the country by winning the 800m and mile races. On Friday, the senior ran the No. 17 best time in NCAA Division II with a time of 1:51.05. On Saturday in the mile, Karker had the second-fastest time in program history at 4:11.90.
 
On the women's side, Acacia Barber had her two best races ever in the mile and the 3,000m. Barber had a 36-second improvement in the mile with a time of 5:06.58 and 24-second PR in the 3,000, running 10:06.17.

The Redhawks will travel to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex next Sunday for the East Coast Conference Championships .
