WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman guard Riley Childress scored in double figures for the third time in five games, but the Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team could not overcome an early 14-0 run by the University of the District of Columbia on Thursday night.
The Firebirds held Roberts scoreless for the final 5:19 of the first quarter to build a 23-7 advantage and went on to a 64-47 victory in an East Coast Conference game.
Childress scored 11 points to lead the Redhawks (4-18, 3-12 ECC). Sophomore Grace Dow added eight points and freshman Paris Anthony added seven.
Junior Georgia Haverlock led Roberts with six rebounds and classmate Danielle DiCintio added five assists. Freshman Grace Galgano contributed four assists, five rebounds and set a career high with seven blocked shots.
The Redhawks wrap up their regular season at 1 p.m. on Saturday with an ECC game at the College of Staten Island.
