WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman guard
Riley Childress scored in double figures for the third time in five games, but the Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team could not overcome an early 14-0 run by the University of the District of Columbia on Thursday night.
The Firebirds held Roberts scoreless for the final 5:19 of the first quarter to build a 23-7 advantage and went on to a 64-47 victory in an East Coast Conference game.
Childress scored 11 points to lead the Redhawks (4-18, 3-12 ECC). Sophomore
Grace Dow added eight points and freshman
Paris Anthony added seven.
Junior
Georgia Haverlock led Roberts with six rebounds and classmate
Danielle DiCintio added five assists. Freshman
Grace Galgano contributed four assists, five rebounds and set a career high with seven blocked shots.
The Redhawks wrap up their regular season at 1 p.m. on Saturday with an ECC game at the College of Staten Island.
