BUFFALO, N.Y. - Battling through challenging weather conditions on Tuesday afternoon, the Roberts Wesleyan women's lacrosse team took down Daemen on the road, 14-1. It was the fourth straight victory for Roberts.
The Redhawks' defense held the Wildcats to its lowest scoring output of the season, allowing just one goal. Leading the way for the Roberts defensive unit was Shawna Lesmerises with seven saves.Â
The Redhawks forced Daemen into 28 turnovers while causing 11 total turnovers. Madelyn Robinson had three caused turnovers and Kadie Tierney also caused three from the midfield.Â
Tierney was dominant on both sides of the field as the freshman also scored four goals to pace the offense. The Marcellus, N.Y. native added in four ground balls to her stat-filled day.Â
Roberts jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over a minute into the game, but the offense cooled off and registered just five first half goals. The second half brought renewed energy for the Redhawks as the team found the back of the net nine times.Â
"It was a great game to prepare us mentally and physically for a huge game on Saturday," said head coach Kristin Paolini. "We didn't start strong, but the team found a way to work through the conditions and sharpen up certain areas of our game allowing us to finish strong."
Freshman Ella Dossier dished out five assists while Alexis Grant, Sophia Podszebka, and Annie Mulhall all scored three goals. Erin Quinn also added a goal.Â
Roberts (9-5, 3-1 ECC) will host Molloy on Saturday at noon in a pivotal ECC matchup. Molloy currently sits atop the standings at 11-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
