Roberts Battles Weather for Solid Performances in Ohio

WESTERVILLE, Ohio / COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Roberts Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams competed in Ohio over the weekend battling inclement weather at both the Jesse Owens Classic hosted by Ohio State University and the Otterbein Twilight hosted by Otterbein University.
 
At Ohio State Hailee Lowe took 18th place in the 400m hurdles just missing out on her personal best with a time of 1:05.98. Lowe's previous best time was 1:05.68.
 
Sprinter Lydia Ware was also close to a new personal record in the 200m race posting a time of 25.61, just .2 seconds off her best of 25.47.
 
On the men's side Ryan Karker ran the 1,500 at Ohio State and placed 19th overall with a time of 3:56.05.
 
Over at Otterbein, some of the track events were affected by the poor weather, but the field event athletes had a successful day.
 
Leading the way was Jacob Wilsen who is not leading the East Coast Conference in pole vault by clearing 3.91m and taking 9th place at the meet.
 
The throws group put together a solid day in Ohio with several student-athletes hitting new personal bests.
 
Sam Hawkins set a new personal mark in the javelin with a toss of 35.64m while Jordan Moran threw 34.61 for his best.
 
Jessica Kowalski had two PR's, including in the javelin (19.58m) and shot put (8.65m) while Courtney Ashline set her best mark in the javelin with a toss of 22.50m.
 
Roberts will head to the GVSU Extra Weekend meet on Saturday before returning home for the East Coast Conference Championships held on May 4.
