Athletics Communications Department Receives Recognition

The Roberts Wesleyan University Athletics Communications Department has been recognized by the College Sports Communicators at the district level.

"Roberts President Relishes Role As Redhawks No. 1 Fan," a story profiling former Roberts Wesleyan University President Dr. Deana Porterfield's passion for athletics, finished as the runner-up in the Coach/Administrator Profile Category for District 1 in CSC's annual Fred Stabley Sr. Writing contest.

The piece, which was published in December, was written by Athletic Communications Consultant Steve Bradley and edited and submitted to the contest by Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Content Strategy Ted Johnson.

"I am blessed to be a part of the Athletic Communications team and play a role in sharing some of the fascinating stories of the amazing student-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff that make up the Roberts Wesleyan community," Bradley said. "Writing this story was a privilege and I appreciate Dr. Porterfield for being generous with her time and trusting me to share the details of her journey from young swimmer to becoming the Redhawks' No. 1 fan. It is always humbling to receive recognition from your peers, and I am grateful to the CSC for its commitment to showcasing the work of its members. I am also tremendously thankful for the support I receive from everyone involved with Roberts athletics, especially Executive Director of Athletics, Bob Segave and Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Content Strategy, Ted Johnson for always encouraging me to pursue new angles and try new things."

"I'm proud of the work that Steve and I have been able to put out there over the last few years," said Johnson. "We are both passionate about telling the stories of our student-athletes and leaders here at Roberts, so it's very cool to see some of that work recognized while it shines more light on the great things happening on this campus. Steve spent a lot of time crafting the story on Deana, I'm happy that his hard work hasn't gone unnoticed."

Nearly 400 entries were submitted in eight contest categories. District 1 consists of college sports communicators from seven states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont) and five provinces (Nova Scotia, Quebec, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick).
