KENMORE, NY – Junior Amelia Ponto and senior Angelica Polcini each earned top-30 individual finishes for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Bowling team over the weekend as the Redhawks placed eighth overall as a team at the Brunswick Fall Open hosted by Niagara University.
Ponto was 25th overall with a five-match average of 171.00 and Polcini rolled a 169.60 average to take 27th place overall out of 75 bowlers in the tournament.
Merrimack won the team points race followed by Niagara, Mount St. Mary's, St. Vincent, Mercyhurst, Bryant, D'Youville and Roberts Wesleyan. The Redhawks finished ahead of Daemen, Pitt-Bradford, Penn St. Behrend and Hilbert.
Roberts was eighth after falling 4-1 to D'Youville in the position round Sunday and finished with a team pin total of 8,298 and a team average of 166.0.
The Redhawks finished day one with a pair of wins by defeating Daemen and an upset win over Mount St. Vincent ranked 12th in the country by a tight 869-860 score.
On Saturday, Roberts was 3-1 with wins over Daeman, D'Youville and Hilbert.
After Ponto and Polcini, the Redhawks were led by senior Luz Torres who was 33rd with an average of 162.00, sophomore Rebecca Spry who finished 44th with a four-match average of 170.75, sophomore Abigail Barnard (63rd – 158.50 (two match average)), senior Danielle Jaeger (64th – 155.50 (two match average)) and freshman Kaylee Stephens (69th – 142.00 (two match average)).
The Redhawks will compete in a dual match at Daemen Saturday, November 9 and compete in the Storm Fall Classic at Daemen November 23-24.
