ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team closed out the 2023-24 season with a gritty effort against East Coast Conference rival Daemen at the Voller Athletic Center.
Roberts trailed by 11 points with 7:45 to play but rallied to cut the Daemen advantage to one, 60-59, on a three-point shot by
Marianna Freeman with 1:16 to play. The Wildcats scored the final four points of the game to earn a 64-59 win on Senior Day.
"The message was to keep fighting," Roberts coach
Kevin Clifford said. "We wanted to just go out and play, it was a big rival and we played really hard. There was great energy and great enthusiasm. Everybody was cheering for each other and that is the way we want to play."
Senior guard
Danielle DiCintio led the Redhawks (7-17, 3-13 ECC) with 14 points and six assists. Freeman and
Paris Anthony each scored 12 points and junior
Grace Dow added 10.
Graduate student
Georgia Haverlock led Roberts with nine rebounds in a game that featured five ties and seven lead changes.
Prior to the game, the Redhawks celebrated DiCintio, Haverlock and forward
Emily Palmer, who were all first-year players on the 2021 ECC Championship team that advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16.
"Dani, Emily and Georgia was a great recruiting class," Clifford said. "We were really excited about that class and to see their growth. We want to thank them for all their contributions to our program on the court. … They have been great ambassadors for our program and won a lot of awards that are well-deserved. They are great players and we want to thank them for all that they have done." Â
