Redhawks Drop Tight Game to No. 7 East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Roberts Wesleyan took No. 7 East Stroudsburg to the brink Tuesday afternoon on the road, losing 12-11. It's the fourth nationally-ranked team the women's lacrosse team has played in its first five games.

The Redhawks held East Stroudsburg scoreless for the last 21 minutes of the game and didn't concede a goal in the fourth quarter. Roberts found the back of the net three times during that final stretch, but was unable to get the game tying goal.

Annie Mulhall, who had two goals in the contest had a last second opportunity, but her shot was saved by ESU goalkeeper Abby Simonetti to close out the game.

"This was another challenging game against a top-ranked opponent," said head coach Kristin Paolini. "It's disappointing to not get the result that I thought we deserved after a really hard-fought effort from our ladies."

Lucy Rugaber led the scoring effort for the Redhawks with five goals. Kadie Tierney added two goals and Emma Blumenstock had a goal and three assists.

Shawna Lesmerises made several impactful saves in net during her nine save day.

Half of ESU's goals came from free position shots. Roberts was awarded just three free position attempts compared to 11 attempts from the host.

Roberts will travel to The College of Saint Rose on Thursday, March 14 for a 4 p.m. game.
