LODI, NJ – Felician University scored 17 of the first 21 points to take an early lead over the Roberts Wesleyan Unoversity Women's Basketball team and finished with a 74-43 win Wednesday afternoon in the first game off a long semester break for the Redhawks.
Roberts (0-12) struggled in the first game since December 15 and committed a season-high 34 turnovers. The total was the most turnovers in a game since Jan. 17, 2020 when Roberts turned the ball over 35 times against the College of the District of Columbia.
Felician (6-9) had a fast start and built a 17-4 lead in the opening minutes of the game. The Golden Falcons led 19-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Roberts rallied and trimmed the lead to seven points late in the second quarter but Felician scored the final seven points of the quarter to take a 14-point lead at 35-21 into the halftime intermission.
Both teams committed a high number of turnovers in the first half as the teams combined for 36 turnovers.
Felician extended the lead with a 17-9 scoring advantage in the third quarter and finished the game with a 22-12 edge in the final quarter.
Sophomore Nevaeh Sanchez came off the bench to lead Roberts with eight points while junior Marianna Freeman and senior Lauren McCrea added seven points each. Senior Grace Dow had six points and a team-leading eight rebounds.
Roberts returns to action January 15 at home against the College of Staten Island in an East Coast Conference (ECC) game at the Voller Athletic Center. The game originally scheduled for January 13 against Seton Hill has been postponed.
