SCHENECTADY, NY – Sophomore Antonie Pieterse started the season the way he finished his record-breaking freshman season for the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Swimming and Diving team Saturday as he broke a pool record and posted three individual wins in the season-opening meet at Union College.
Pieterse had his biggest win of the day in the 100 butterfly race as he raced to a first-place finish with a pool record time of 48.96. The time broke the old pool record set by US Olympian Kieran Smith.
The 2024-25 All-American also won the 100 freestyle (46.08) and the 200 IM (1:56.22) to lead the Redhawks. He added a first-place finish with the 400 Medley Relay as he teamed with freshman Raphael Weber, freshman Leu Cabanayan and sophomore Tanner Pinto-Cohn with win the race in 3:37.07.
Weber added a school-record time in the 500 free as he led the field with a time of 4:57.52. The freshman added a second-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.01.
Sophomore Ethan Springle won the 50 backstroke in 26.96 and was second in the 100 back with a time of 1:00.39.
Cabanayan added a second-place finish in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 28.44 and freshman diver Joel Fessmire was the top finisher on the 1-meter board with a score of 136.13.
Roberts will compete next on Wednesday afternoon at Alfred State.
