SCHENECTADY, NY – Sophomore Cara Pillittieri had a big day with a pair of wins in the freestyle distance races to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Swimming and Diving team at the season-opening tri-meet at Union College with Westfield State.
The Redhawks dropped a 131-105 decision to host Union and downed Westfield State by a score of 133-101.
Pillittieri anchored the 400 Medley Relay to a second-place finish as she teamed with freshman Skye Micklethwaite, freshman Teagan Lewis and senior Joane Arzalluz-Garzon to post a time of 4:27.09. Then Pillittieri won the 1000 with a time of 11:52.14 and later in the meet posted a time of 5:50.75 to win the 500 free race.
Junior Sidney Simmons won both diving events with a score of 239.88 on the 1-meter board and 244.20 on the 3-meter board. Senior Emma Dicob was second in both events.
Arzalluz-Garzon added a second-place finish in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 35.30, Lewis was second in the 100 free with her time of 57.93 and Micklethwaite was second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.79.
Roberts will compete next on Wednesday afternoon at Alfred State.
