ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Archie Murphy scored with 1:29 left to play in the second overtime period to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Men's Soccer team to a 1-0 Golden Goal victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College Saturday in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship semifinal match at Roberts Stadium.
Roberts (10-2-6) advances to play Queens College for the ECC Tournament title November 15.
Murphy scored the Golden Goal on a rebound from a shot from the foot of senior Iann Briones as he launched a shot from 25 yards out that deflected off the crossbar. Murphy was able the head in the rebound for the goal to end the game in the second overtime.
STAC had an advantage of 19-4 and 9-2 in shots and shots on goal but the Roberts defense was strong all day and senior Eric Jewson tied his season-best with nine saves and eclipsed the 100-save plateau to pick up his fourth shutout of the season.
Murphy had another great scoring chance early in the game as hos shot in the second minute of the game was just wide of the goal.
The Redhawks will face the winner of the Queens vs. District of Columbia semifinal match.
