PLEASANTVILLE, NY – Seniors Tannah O'Neill-Blake and Emma Blumenstock as well as junior Kadie Tierney for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Lacrosse team but the Redhawks struggled in the second and third quarters as Pace University scored a 20-8 win in the season-opening game for Roberts.
Tierney, sophomore Alison Dioguardi and O'Neill-Blake scored goals in the first nine minutes of the game to give Roberts (0-1) an early 3-2 lead.
Pace (1-0), ranked No. 2 in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national poll, scored 10 consecutive goals to take a 12-3 lead late in the second quarter.
Blumenstock scored a pair of goals at the end of the first half to trim the lead to 12-5 at halftime.
The Setters scored five of the six goals in the third quarter to extend the lead to 17-6 after three quarters of action. Tierney scored the lone Roberts goal in the period.
After Paced scored three straight goals in the final quarter, Roberts added the final two goals of the game as O'Neill-Blake and freshman Lia MacDougall scored for the Redhawks.
Blumenstock led Roberts with two goals and three assists and senior Shawna Lesmerises made nine saves in the Redhawk goal.
Roberts returns to action Saturday at West Chester University.
