NIAGARA FALLS, NY – Sophomore Abigail Barnard rolled a huge 10th frame of game two of the final position round match to spark a win for the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Bowling team as the Redhawks went on to win the third and fourth games as well before finishing off the match with a win in the sixth game for a 4-2 victory over Daemen University to place seventh overall at the Purple Eagles Brunswick Spring Classic Sunday.
In the final match of the day between the No. 8 and No. 7 seeded teams, Daemen won the opening game 192-178 but Roberts rallied for a 206-202 win in the second game as Barnard rolled three strikes in the final frame to complete the come-from-behind victory.
The Redhawks used the momentum from that finish to post a 235-155 win in game three and then took a 3-1 lead with a close 158-155 win in the fourth game as Barnard finished the game with a spare and a strike in the 10th.
Daemen battled back to win the fifth game 194-189 to close to within 3-2 but Roberts closed out the match with a win in the sixth game to clinch the best-of-seven match.
In the Sunday competition, Roberts dropped a 990-843 match to Merrimack and lost a close match with William Smith as the Herons posted a 935-912 win.
Mercyhurst, ranked 24th in the country, won the final team standings with a 186.5 average and a 9,512 pin count. Niagara (184.8/9,423) followed by Merrimack, ranked 19th in the country (183.3/9,347), Bryant University (183.2/9,341), William Smith (179.2/8.960), D'Youville (176.5/8.827) and Roberts with an average of 177.1 and pin count of 9,032. The Redhawks finished ahead of Daemen, Pitt Bradford, Penn St. Behrend and Hilbert.
The Redhawks rallied for a 900-779 win over Hilbert to qualify for the Seventh-Place match.
Roberts will host the Redhawks Roc City Classic March 1st at the Bowlero in Webster.
