ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team used a big second quarter to take a four-point lead over D'Youville in the second quarter, but the visiting Saints regrouped in the second half to earn a 63-49 victory at the Voller Athletic Center on Wednesday night.
Senior guard
Lauren McCrea scored eight of her 12 points in the second quarter as the Redhawks (2-21, 2-13 ECC) outscored D'Youville 18-2 to take a 23-19 lead at the half.
D'Youville opened the second half with an 11-2 run and was able to hold off the Redhawks, who pulled within six points with 2:29 to play before the Saints sank a pair of late three-pointers to secure the victory.
Graduate student
Georgia Haverlock scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds in her final game at the VAC.
McCrea finished with 12 points and
Grace Dow, who was also playing her final home game, contributed seven rebounds and five assists.
Junior forward
Cristina Gonzalez-Simarro Rubio scored four points during the second-quarter spurt and finished with six points and seven rebounds.
The Redhawks will conclude their season with an ECC game at Daemen at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
