STATEN ISLAND, NY – Freshman Jada Mushat eclipsed the 300-point mark for the season with a 25-point effort to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Women's Basketball team but the Redhawks dropped a 73-55 decision to the College of Staten Island Sunday afternoon.
The game, originally scheduled for 2 p.m. was moved to an 11 a.m. start to the impending weather approaching the New York City area.
Mushat hit double figures for the sixth consecutive game and the eighth time in the last nine games. It was Mushat and sophomore Erin Frazier with key baskets early in the third period as Roberts (4-17 overall, 1-12 ECC) trimmed the lead down to eight points at 43-35 but the Dolphins (9-17, 5-9 ECC) answered with an 8-1 run to regain control and ended the period with a 53-39 lead.
Staten Island capped the contest with a 20-18 advantage in the final quarter for the 73-55 final score.
Frazier finished with seven points and a team-leading eight rebounds. Sophomore Meaghan Doherty also scored seven and senior Laura Granada had a pair of late 3-pointers to finish with six points.
Roberts returns home Wednesday to face Daemen University with an ECC doubleheader and a 6 p.m. start in the Voller Athletic Center.
