ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior
Cristina Gonzalez-Simarro Rubio scored the go-ahead basket on a jump shot with 1:43 remaining in the fourth quarter as the Roberts Wesleyan University women's basketball team held off D'Youville, 54-51, in an East Coast Conference game Saturday afternoon in the Voller Athletic Center.
Simarro's basket broke a 51-51 tie and Roberts held D'Youville scoreless the rest of the way. The Saints attempted a three-pointer to tie the game in the closing seconds but it was off the mark.
Freshman
Aniyah Jones scored 17 points and collected nine rebounds while Simarro added 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Redhawks on Senior Day.
Senior
Laura Granada sank a pair of three-pointers and sophomore
Meaghan Doherty finished with four assists for Roberts.
Simarro, Granada and fellow seniors
Maria Ferrer Brao (four points) and Barbora Fronkova (three points) were honored in a pregame ceremony.
Roberts finished its season with a 5-19 record and 2-14 mark in the ECC.
