BROCKPORT, NY – Freshman Aimee Turner threw for one touchdown and ran for another to lead the Roberts Wesleyan University Flag Football team to a 12-0 victory Wednesday over SUNY Brockport to complete the first season of competition with a perfect 12-0 record.
The win over the Golden Eagles gave Roberts possession of the trophy for the Inaugural Mark's Pizzeria Cup game.
After a scoreless first quarter, Turner completed a 67-yard TD pass to freshman Kate Rayburn for the first score of the game. The play was the longest scoring play of the season for Roberts.
The score remained 6-0 until the fourth quarter when Turner broke free for a 26-yard scoring run to double the Redhawks lead to 12-0.
The Roberts defense, that posted eight shutout victories in the first season including seven in a row, wrapped up the game with a solid defensive effort for the win.
Turner was 5-for-17 for 112 passing and added 88 yards on 14 carries to lead the rushing attack.
Rayburn had the long scoring reception while senior Barbora Fronkova led the pass catchers with four receptions for 40 yards.
Sophomore
Aaliyah McCoy and Fronkova both had nine tackles with McCoy adding a sack and Fronkova turning in a pair of interceptions and three pass break-ups.
