DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team's season came to a close Saturday after a 21-1 loss to top-seeded Mercy in the East Coast Conference championship game.
Roberts, the No. 2 seed, entered the game on a four-game winning streak but gave up four goals in the first five minutes and Mercy, which is ranked No. 18 nationally in the latest IWLCA Top 25 Poll and No. 14 in the
USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll, did not look back.
Sophomore
Hannah Sparks scored a player-up goal for Roberts (7-9). She was assisted by senior
Ella Dossier, who finished her college career with 210 career points, which ranks fourth in program history.
Mercy held an 18-6 advantage in draw controls and out-shot the Redhawks 38-9 on Saturday.
Graduate student
Allison Clahane and senior
Emma Taylor, who were playing in their final games as Redhawks, both caused two turnovers for Roberts. Freshman
Josella Harrison made five saves in goal.
Roberts, which started the season 1-7, won six of its last eight games under the direction of first-year head coach
Ellen Newton.
The Redhawks have reached the ECC title game in five of the past six seasons, winning titles in 2021 and 2024.
