COLCHESTER, VT – The Roberts Wesleyan Men's Soccer team had more shots Saturday tan opponent Saint Michael's College but a pair of second half goals for the Purple Knights led to a 3-2 loss for the Redhawks as the team dropped a second one-goal decision in the road trip to New England.
Saint Michael's opened the scoring on a corner kick 10 minutes into the game but senior Archie Murphy delivered a penalty kick goal in the closing minutes of the first half to knot the score at 1-1.
Early in the second half, Saint Michael's regained the lead with a goal less than six minutes into the half.
The Purple Knights scored again 20 minutes later to push the lead to 3-1 but senior Takumi Horan scored on a long kick to close to within a goal late in the game as time ran out on the comeback effort.
Roberts held a 16-13 shots advantage but the shots on goal totals were in favor of the Purple Knights by a 9-7 margin.
The Redhawks will play a fourth straight road game to start the season Wednesday afternoon at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania before the home opener September 12 against Goldey-Beacom College.
