Mark McCown

Mark McCown was named Head Coach of the Roberts Wesleyan Track & Field program in January 2019. Coach McCown primarily works with sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers, and multi-athletes within the Track & Field program. 

Since being named Head Coach, McCown has led the Roberts Wesleyan men to three Outdoor Track & Field East Coast Conference (ECC) titles. On the women’s side, he has won four conference titles. After the conclusion of the 2024 season, McCown was named ECC Coach of the Year after leading the Roberts Wesleyan Men to their 2nd straight conference title, claiming his 7th ECC Coach of the Year award. McCown was also named Women’s DII East Region Coach of the Year in 2021.

Coach McCown has over 35 years of coaching experience. He has a strong passion for not only coaching but also supporting his student-athletes as they balance academic, spiritual, and athletic responsibilities. Before Roberts Wesleyan, McCown spent six years at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana, as an assistant coach. He led the Pilots to three NCCAA Track & Field National Championships for both indoor and outdoor Track & Field, winning both the Men and Women’s Indoor titles in 2015 and the Men’s Indoor title in 2018, respectively. 

McCown started coaching in 1988 when he served as an assistant coach at Churchville-Chili High School for both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams until 1990. McCown then spent 20 years at Maranatha High School in Pasadena, California, from 1993 to 2013 as the Cross Country and Track & Field coach, where he helped establish an elite running program.

As a former collegiate Cross Country and Track & Field athlete at Seattle Pacific University, McCown is very familiar with various training regiments and writes workouts for all his athletes throughout the season. McCown’s wife Dorcas and daughter Isabelle are also often found helping out around the track during competitions.
