The Roberts Wesleyan University Athletics Department has enjoyed a period of growth and success under the leadership of Executive Director of Athletics Bob Segave.

Hired as Director of Athletics in 2015 and promoted to Executive Director of Athletics in 2022, the Redhawks have succeeded in competition, in the classroom and in the community throughout Segave’s tenure.

In his current role, Segave is tasked with sustaining an environment in which student-athletes are provided an outstanding educational and transformational experience while competing in NCAA Division II athletics.  He oversees all intercollegiate sports programs, including responsibility for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and assessing student-centered coaches and their development while building and maintaining a culture of scholarship, spiritual formation and service.

Roberts has received the NCAA Division II Award of Excellence, which exemplifies the Division II philosophy of community engagement and student-athlete leadership, three times (2021, 2024 and 2025) under Segave’s guidance. Roberts is the first institution to win the Award of Excellence in consecutive years and the only institution to receive the grand prize more than once.

Segave also established the Redhawks Reachout Community Service initiative which engages members of the Athletic Department with the community. The Redhawks Reachout program has been recognized with the ECC Cares Award and played a pivotal role in Roberts’ success in the Award of Excellence recognition.

Segave also pioneered the Academics over Athletics program with a focus on Life After the Game that led to numerous awards for athletic and academic excellence at the conference and national level.

Roberts also received the East Coast Conference Commissioner’s Cup, symbolizing the top athletic program in ECC, in both 2024 and 2025.

The Athletic Department has also grown significantly in the past decade with the debut of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs in 2017, the addition of women’s field hockey, women’s triathlon, men’s volleyball and eSports in 2023 and women’s flag football in the spring of 2026.

Roberts has also boosted its track and field programs with the hiring of assistant coaches Jenn and Rick Suhr for pole vault and expanding its throwing program.

Roberts has also partnered with Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Fields of Faith during the last decade. The Redhawks have also hosted multiple ECC and NCAA Regional championships.

Segave has secured four NCAA grants for positions in the athletic department and expanded the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) focus, including having a representative at the national level. He oversees the annual Redhawks Golf Scramble, which raises funds for athletics and athletic scholarships, and has instituted the The Reggies, an annual year-end athletics award celebration.

The Redhawks have also succeeded at the conference and national levels, winning several ECC individual and team championships. The women’s lacrosse team reached the NCAA Division II Final Four in 2021 and pole vaulter Brynn King captured four NCAA Division II championships (two indoor and two outdoor) in 2024 and ’25.

Segave previously served the Redhawks as their head women’s basketball coach from 2007 to 2015, earning over 100 wins and six Coach of the Year honors while coaching five All–Americans and graduating all of his four-year players

In 2015, Segave was a key figure in the renovation of the Voller Athletic Center, working with a team to complete improvements to the upper and lower levels of the building that includes new office space, a new fitness center and a new weight room, as well as the Redhawk Roost and a branding program.

Segave graduated from Roberts with a bachelor's degree in Organizational Management.  He completed his Master of Science in Strategic Leadership in 2013 and is a member of NACDA.

Prior to his time at Roberts, Segave was a successful basketball coach in the Rochester area for 30 years and worked in the private sector as a senior manager in retail sporting goods and distribution management.

He is married to Laura. They reside in North Chili and have three adult children: Brandon, Merrick, and Jonathan.
