Women’s Soccer Wins Fifth Straight

The women's soccer team pulled out a 2-1 overtime win over conference foe Malone University for their fifth straight win.

Mandi Hochheimer (The Aquinas Institute) scored 1:20 into overtime to give the visiting Raiders the win. Senior Alyssa Farina (Rush Henrietta) got the Raiders on the score board first after heading home a throw-in from Mandi Hochheimer in the first half. Malone would answer just four minutes into the second half as the Raiders broke down defensively to tie the score at 1-1. Both teams would battle the rest of the half with neither team getting a great look at goal.

In overtime, freshman Mandi Hochheimer outran the Malone defense to save the ball from going out bounce. She then cut the ball back inside and fired the ball off the Malone goalie and into the net to give the Raiders the 2-1 victory in overtime.  This was her team leading 7th goal of the season.

“It definitely was not one of our better performances today but we came away with the result” commented Head Coach Dan Berg. “We did a great job of possessing the ball but were impatient in the final third and that was the difference. Our defense did a great job other than the one lapse we had limiting Malone's scoring opportunities.  Most of their shots were from distance that didn't cause any problems for Amanda in the goal. Annie Tutino played an outstanding game for us in the back today and Mandi's goal was just pure determination to get the win and go home. We batted all day and that is all I can ask of the girls.”

The Raiders are currently 6-2 overall and 2-0 in American Mideast Conference play.  The Raiders are home on Saturday in another key AMC conference game against Walsh University at 1:00pm
