The Roberts Wesleyan College women's volleyball team continued their hot play Saturday, posting two three-set victories over SUNY Brockport and Medaille College. The Raiders downed Brockport 25-14, 25-21, 25-16, and topped Medaille 25-13, 25-23, 25-17. Roberts finished the tournament 3-0, and has increased their overall record to 11-2.
The Raiders played a much improved Brockport team in the first match of the day. During the second set, Brockport kept the set tight until 20-20. The Raiders then pulled away with consistent serving and two key blocks. Continuing to play tough, the Raiders dropped Medaille in the second match. Again, the second set was tight, with the Mavericks pulling ahead late in the match. The score stretched to 17-23 in favor of the Mavs, when Katie Maher (Baldwinsville, NY) stepped in to serve eight straight points for the win. Roberts rolled in the third set to win the match and the tournament title.
The Raiders were led by Sophomore Alexa Antoni (Rancho Cucamonga, CA). Her 22 kills and 18 digs sparked the Raiders throughout the day. Senior co-captain Mandie Bartz (Attica, NY) notched 11 kills and 8 blocks on the day. Mandie hit at a clip of .500. Sophomore setter Lisa Bierdeman (Albion, NY) dished out 58 assists and picked up 12 digs in the winning effort. Katie Maher continued her solid defensive play. She tallied 30 digs between the two matches.
The Raiders, now 11-2, face a tough week ahead. Three away matches are scheduled against Le Moyne (Tuesday at 7:00 PM), Houghton (Thursday at 7:00 PM), and Daemen (Saturday at 12:00 PM).
