LADY RAIDERS BOUNCE BACK FROM TOUGH WEEKEND, DEFEAT R.I.T. 83 – 46

The Roberts women's basketball team (8-4, 1-1) defeated R.I.T. (2-6) 83-46 on December 14, 2010 at the Voller Athletic Center, ending a four game losing streak in the process.
 
The Raiders held the Tigers scoreless in the first six minutes, racing out to a 14-0 with contributions from six players. The rest of the half was much the same, and the Lady Raiders were ahead 40-14 at the halftime buzzer. The Raiders pushed their lead to 42 points with 7 minutes remaining in the second half after a three by senior guard Cynnetha Bellinger and outscored the Lady Tigers in the second half 43-32.
 
Offensively, the Roberts women were 42.5% from the field including 9-19 from beyond the 3 point arc at 47.4%. The Tigers shot 26.9% from the field and made only 1 of 20 three point attempts. At the free throw line, R.I.T. connected on 9 of 13 attempts at 69.2% and Roberts made 12-18 at 66.7%. The Lady Raiders moved the ball well; totaling 21 assists to R.I.T.'s 8.
 
Roberts was active on the defensive end, forcing 20 turnovers and grabbing 14 steals to R.I.T.'s 7. The Lady Raiders won the boards 57-42. R.I.T. forced 16 turnovers.
 
The Roberts women demonstrated balance in their offense with four players in double figures. Junior forward Brittany Williams led the way with 13 points and 4 assists. Sophomore guard Marissa Bunce contributed 12 points, 6 boards, 4, assists, 3, steals, and a block. Senior forward Katie Lowell and junior forward Bianca Jones each chipped in 10 points and a steal. Jones also had 2 blocks and Lowell added a game-high 10 rebounds as well as 3 assists. Bellinger finished a strong all around game with 9 points, 6 boards, 5 assists, and 4 steals.

R.I.T. was led by sophomore Leslie Havens with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Freshmen Courtney Tennant and Kayla Wheeler added 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

“It was good to get this win,” said Coach Bob Segave. “R.I.T. has some very good young players. I was pleased with our execution on both ends of the floor. Cynnetha Bellinger really played a great game tonight. With Tiffany (Wilson) out, she stepped up and made contributions in every facet of the game. We had good scoring balance which is a key for us.”
 
The Raiders don't play again until after the New Year. They travel to play #14 Walsh on January 4, 2012 in an AMC contest. Tipoff is at 6PM and the game can be followed at www.walsh.edu.
