BUFFALO, N.Y. (November 18, 2011) - The Medaille College Mavericks edged the Men's Basketball team 72-61 in the opening game of the Knee Center of WNY Tip-Off Tournament at Medaille College.
The Raiders never led in the game as the visitors struggled to contain the Mavericks quick pace. Going into the half, the Raiders trailed 38-26. The Mavericks led in nearly every category, including bench points (15-6), points in the paint (16-14), and second chance points (8-2) in the first half.
In the second half, the Raiders couldn't dent the Mavericks double-digit lead. The Mavericks found ways to contain
Alif Bland inside, often times double or triple teaming Bland. On the night, Bland manged only five points, six rebounds, and three blocks.
Mike Stone led the Raiders with 22 points after shooting 4 of 8 from 3-point range and 9 of 18 from the floor.
Herbert Alexander chipped in 16 points for the Raiders, going 5 of 10. Alexander was a perfect 3 for 3 from the charity stripe.
The Raiders shot 40% from the floor while the Mavericks shot just under 50%. Phil Maiarana paced the Mavericks with 16 points, four assists, and four rebounds.
The Raiders are now 2-2 on the season.
The team will play at 1pm tomorrow afternoon in the consolation game versus SUNY Morrisville or Nazareth College.
