Columbia , Ky. (November 19, 2011) – The Women's Soccer teams season came to an end this afternoon, losing 6-1 to the top seeded Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders this afternoon in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round.
This was the first time the Raiders have qualified for the NAIA National Championships in program history.
The Blue Raiders got on the board in the 10
th minute off a strong shot by Ayaki Shinada from the top of the 18-yard box.
Shinada would strike again nine minutes later, beating Raiders goalkeeper
Marissa Sell with a point-blank shot from 10 yards in front of goal.
A minute later, Mia Persson would give Lindsey Wilson a 3-0 lead with a shot from nearly the same spot.
Saeda Sueki added a fourth goal for the Blue Raiders in the 28
th minute, putting the shot past Sell from 15 yards out.
The Raiders got on the board in the 32
nd minute when
Ambre Kuzma snuck a shot past Blue Raiders 'keeper Ester Simonsen off a conrer-kick from
Ashley Drenth.
It was more of the same as Lindsey Wilson continued to pile on the goals early in the second half. The Blue Raiders' Ida Gregersen added the fifth goal for the Blue Raiders in the 48
th minutes, scoring from the 19 yards out at the top of the box.
Patricia Nielsen added another for the home team in the 58
th minute to make the score 6-1.
The Raiders had a difficult time breaking through the Blue Raiders defense, managing only four shots and one shot on goal. Kuzma finished with two shots to lead the Raiders.
The Raiders finish the 2011 season 10-10-1.
