Raiders Down Geneseo, Advance in Wendy's College Classic

The Women's Basketball team defeated the SUNY Geneseo Knights 76-71 in the opening round of the Wendy's College Classic this evening at the College at Brockport.  

The Raiders trailed once in the game when Geneseo scored the first three points. 

The Raiders jumped out to a 15-7 lead eight minutes in after Marissa Bunce hit her second three of the game.

Bunce would hit another three-pointer to continue her hot shooting from beyond the arc to make it a 22-13 lead with 8:30 left in the first half.

Geneseo's Katelyn Charbonneau made a tough shot from underneath the basket to make it a 22-19 Raiders lead with 5 minutes to play in the first half.

With 16 seconds left in the half Lea Sobieroski made a lay-up to even the score at 30-30 going into the half.

In the first half, the Raiders shot 38% from three-point range, going 5 for 13. Bunce led the Raiders with nine points with  all nine points coming from beyond the arc.

Sobieroski led all scorers with 11 points in the first half.

Ashley Cianfriglia scored back-to-back threes five minutes into the second half to give the Raiders the first double-digit lead of the game, 47-37.

The Raiders continued to control the game when Lindsay Kendall hit a three to make it a 63-52 Raiders lead with 6:18 to play.

Bunce added her sixth three-pointer with 3:25 to play to make it a 66-53 lead for the Raiders.

The Knights made it interesting down the stretch when Bri Dunton hit two free throws to cut the Raiders lead to 70-64 with 1:40 to play.

Geneseo's Melissa Graham hit a three with 45 seconds left to make it five point lead for the Raiders.

The Raiders would hang on in the final moments to win the game, advancing to the second round.

Bunce led the Raiders with 22 points after hitting 6 three-pointers. Sydni Lester scored 13 points while Cianfriglia added 11 points for the Raiders.

The win improves the Raiders to 5-2 on the season.

The Raiders will face the Rochester Institute of Technology Thursday night at RIT's Clark Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
