Raiders Stumble in Loss to Brockport in Wendy's College Classic

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (November 30, 2011) – The Men's Basketball team lost 79-68 to the Golden Eagles of the College at Brockport in the opening round of the Wendy's College Classic this evening.

The Golden Eagles picked up their first win of the season as Gerald Williams led Brockport with 22 points.

The Raiders trailed for most of the first half until Mike Stone hit a three to tie it up for the Raiders at 24-24 with 9:28 left in the half.  Less than a minute later, Alif Bland would give the visitors a 26-24 lead for the first time.

The Golden Eagles' Gerald Williams scored his 1,000th point after hitting a three pointer with 4:46 to play in the half, giving the home team a 34-29 lead.

Going into halftime, the Golden Eagles would build some separation with Bland having to sit out late in the first half due to foul trouble. At the break, Brockport led the Raider 45-32.

In the first half the Raiders were out-rebounded 29 to 16. The Raiders were cold from beyond the arc, going 2 of 13. The Golden Eagles' Kyheem Green earned a double-double in the first half, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Mike Stone led the Raiders with 10 points in the first half.

In the second half, the Raiders continued to struggle on boards as the Golden Eagles maintained a double-digit lead for the first 10 minutes of the half.

Patrick Downer would make it a 66-57 game after putting a away a second chance shot with nine minutes to play.

With 6:05 left, Herbert Alexeander went 1 for 2 from the line to cut the Golden Eagles lead to six. That would be as close at the Raiders would get as Brockport pulled away for the win.

Down the stretch, the Raiders were unable to take advantage of their opportunities as the team went 19 of 33 from the free throw line.

The Raiders shot 36% from the field and a miserable 17% from behind the arc.

Mike Stone led all scorers with 23 points for the Raiders. Stone hit all four three-pointers for the visitors. Alif Bland put in 15 points and hauled in nine rebounds.

The loss drops the Raiders to 2-6 this season.

The Raiders will travel to St. John Fisher College on Friday to take on the Cardinals in their first consolation game. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
