ERIE, Pa. (December 18, 2011) – The Men's Basketball team fell 79-67 to the 20
th ranked Bowie State Bulldogs (NCAA DII) this afternoon at the Mercyhurst Invitational.
The Raiders hung with the nationally ranked team in the first half. The Raiders led three times in the half as there were a total of seven lead changes in the opening stanza.
Mike Stone would hit a jumper with 36 seconds left in the first half to tie the game at 31 going into the break.
The Bulldogs pulled away in the second half after Herbert Alexeander tied the game off a three-point shot a minute into the second half.
The Raiders managed to stay in the game as the Bulldogs largest lead (12 points) came with only 40 seconds left in the game.
Four players scored in double-digits for the Raiders.
Alif Bland put up 16 points and pulled in 11 rebounds to lead the team. Bland went 5 of 9 from the field and missed only two free-throws (6 of 8). The senior forward also recorded five blocks.
Mike Stone and Alexander both chipped in 15 points.
Patrick Downer just missed out on the double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
The Bulldogs' Darren Clark led all scorers with 22 points. Clark was perfect from the free-throw line, making all 11 attempts from the charity stripe.
The loss drops to Raiders to 4-10 as the team wrapped up the 2011 portion of the season.
The Raiders are back in action Tuesday, January 3
rd when they travel to face Mansfield University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
